KEY EXPECTATION POLICIES:

CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY - The students' home school's Code of Conduct applies to them while in the Project Resiliency Day Treatment Program. Since they are sharing the facility with the James Anderson learning Centre, the JALC's Code of Conduct also applies.

ATTENDANCE POLICY – Student's must arrive by 9:30am unless prior arrangements are made with the Project Resiliency staff. If prior arrangements are not made, students will not be admitted into the program for that day and will be asked to return and complete the program on another day.

ELECTRONICS POLICY - Electronic equipment (cell phones, pagers, MP3 players, etc...) are not allowed to be used during class time.

CLOSED CAMPUS POLICY - Due to limited supervision, students must remain on the property of the Project Resiliency Day Treatment program until dismissal at days end.

LUNCH POLICY - Students need to supply their own lunch (no on-site cafeteria).

BEHAVIOUR POLICY - Any inappropriate conduct or unsafe behaviour (including not following the directions of staff) will result a suspension or additional days attendance in the program.

FULL DISCLOSURE POLICY - A Full Disclosure Policy- Given that deception (lying) is an active part of the process of disengagement; we will not endorse or perpetuate any form of deception - to oneself or others. Although this can be challenging, we believe that there are no good "secrets".

Therefore, statements or information shared that potentially puts the "safety" or the "safety of others" at risk, will be disclosed to parents and potentially other school or outside support professionals. Also, students are informed that all "information" 1 could be shared with family and support personnel.

RESPONSE POLICIES:

If a student is unwilling or unable to comply with the Programs policies, then the following options are recommended:

To go home for the day and then return the next day and restart the day that was not completed.

  • To go home for the rest of the day, then do a home study day and then return the next day and restart the day that was not completed.
  • To go home for the rest of the day, then do a home study day and then restart the three day cycle (regardless of which day they were on).
  • If student doesn't complete the program in seven days , then a recommendation will be made for either: a) a School Based Team Meeting (with Parents) to explore other supportive options b) an outside of district Detox/Treatment Program c) attendance at either JALC/APEX Secondary for at least one term (demonstrating success) and re-attending the program for three days prior to returning to mainstream classes2.

**The referring administrator will be called in all cases by a representative of the program (Dee, Cindy or David) - before any decision is made.**

1 Full Disclosure policy is aligned with the Infants Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and School Acts.

2 This intervention is for discussion purposes only… not a confirmed approach.

DISCHARGE:

Students will leave the program with a Project Resiliency portfolio of their work to share with their school, parents, and other support people as well as a Completion Report.  The Completion Report will be different for each student and may include community and health supports. The Project Resiliency Completion report will:

•  Outline presenting adversities

•  Define a discharge plan for each adversity.

•  Identify adult support persons who are responsible for supporting the plan.

•  List all other referrals made (e.g. Counselling, detox, Early Psychosis Intervention, etc...).

Project Resiliency staff will follow-up, track student progress, and further assist school staff if required in order to create long term support plans.

SCHOOL RE-INTAKE MEETING:

Meetings must be done with all students upon return to school. Students work hard on their Portfolios and should be given the chance to share them. Upon return, students meet with their administrator and counsellor (key support people are optional) to discuss their experience at Project Resiliency and provide a copy of their Completion Report. The Completion Report will be shared by the administrator with the identified key support people.
