JALC Secondary
James Anderson Learning Centre - Secondary School
Secondary students attending James Anderson Learning Centre are working to overcome adversities or challenges related to their health, home life, school or community. Some are also gifted, athletes or have transitory educational needs and benefit from a more flexible learning environment.
Students generally work through direct instruction, flexible and variable course work. Students who come to the school are either referred by their local school, self referred or enrolled at the request of their parents. Individualized programs focus on the core areas of Math, Science, English and Social Studies as well as Personal Planning and Physical Education.
The main academic goal of JALC is to provide a learning environment where learners can complete required grade 10 courses in preparation for graduation. A team of specialized educators work with students around learning gaps or challenges. Additional supports around social and emotional well being are provided through individual and small group counselling. In addition, some students are connected with the trades through apprenticeship programs and other career preparation opportunities.
