Education
At James Anderson Learning Centre (JALC) our goal is to help ensure post secondary success for every student. With a variety of options it is our hope that every student will leave school having a postsecondary plan that has a high probability of success. Current statistics show that this is not the case in most educational systems.
According to the Youth in Transition Survey completed in Canada in 2003...
“Over 25% of youth were not attending school (either secondary or postsecondary)in December... In December 2003, most of these youth were high school graduates (74%) or dropouts (26%). A number had graduated from a postsecondary institution (20%) or had dropped out of postsecondary
education (16%). Most of these youth were working, but both high school and postsecondary dropouts were more likely to find themselves unemployed.”
Of those students not in attending post secondary education:
45% were working full time
9% were working part time
14% were not working at all
Post secondary planning is the key to ensure post secondary success. The following are some options for students while attending JALC.
Career Education Centre
The career education centre at school is available for students to book appointments and have help completing resumes and preparing for the job search process. We are also available to assist students in making a post secondary plan that will help give them direction as they move on in their life journey. This can include things such as interest, skill and learning style inventories as well as in making the connection between these inventories and post secondary life.
There is also an opportunity for students to attend various tours and work experience options that may help them to gain some insight into what type of career they may be interested in in the future. The following websites provide some help information in this area.
